How to Save $$$ on CIA Exam Fees

Unfortunately, like most things, the CIA certification is not free. Even though the financial benefits that come with the prestigious title make up for the fees in the big picture, the CIA process is still an investment.

Let’s see how you can become a CIA and save money in the process!

All the Fees for the CIA Exam

There are a handful of fees you are going to run into as you work your way up to becoming a Certified Internal Auditor. To process your application, you must pay $200. Once you are qualified to sit for the exam, you can schedule your first exam. Part 1 will cost you $350 while parts 2 and 3 each cost $300, which brings you to a grand total of $1,150 for the whole exam.

Don’t forget about those hidden fees though! These include things like travel and your trusty CIA review course. If you have to take a plane, car, train, boat, or whatever, the travel costs need to be included in your budget. Review courses can also be quite pricey, with some costing as much as $1,000. Gryfin, on the other hand, costs you only $397.

Best Way to Save

These fees cannot be avoided, but they can definitely be lowered. How so? By joining the Institute of Internal Auditors. You will be able to save $100 on the application and each part of the exam with your IIA membership. Even with the cost of the membership ($240), your total will be $990.

The IIA membership will save you a couple hundred dollars, but if you’re lucky enough to be a student, you get the best discount on the market. You not only have the lowest fees ($150 dollars off the application and individual parts), but also have the cheapest membership fee to the IIA—$35! So take advantage of your student privileges while you still can.

What is the IIA?

The Institute of Internal Auditors is an international professional organization dedicated to developing the status of internal auditing. Created in 1942, the IIA hosts regular meetings, conferences, and seminars all around the world. These events, and the online community, is what really makes an IIA membership so valuable.

Other Benefits You Get From the IIA

Discounts aren’t the only perk you get from the IIA. You’ll find an oasis of internal auditing practices, networking opportunities, and collaboration with others through the IIA. The IIA is also the best place to stay in the know with relevant auditing news and solutions via social media, publications, blogs, and websites.

Your IIA membership will allow you to experience training seminars, webinars, workshops, and self-study courses. You will be able to increase your confidence and reveal your expertise to others at these events by talking with others, public speaking, sharing editorial/video content, and participating in local educational partnerships. Check out IIA’s website to see all the other sweet benefits you could potentially use.

How to Join the Club!

You can find IIA programs and institutes all over the world. To join, simply contact the closest one to you. If you live in the United States, Canada, Bermuda, Caribbean, Guyana, or Trinidad & Tobago, you can go here to create an account. You can then log in and officially join the IIA. The IIA’s global website can help you out if you aren’t from any of the places listed.

Moral of the story: join the IIA in order to save big on your CIA Exam fees, especially if you are a student!
